pleading guilty in 2009 to indecent assault and sexual intercourse with a female under 14, he was sentenced to three and half years of prison

he was reported to the ontario college of teachers, and his licence to teach was revoked.
and if those 2 teen girls (ok, now they are in their mid-40s) require support systems and counselling to get past this horrible memory - then certainly they should get it
but 40 million dollars?

of course, Bruce Abel doesn't have that kind of cash
so they are suing the principal and the school board too - you know, the province's (ie: our) deep pockets
so give the lawyers half (cause you know they pushed for this suit), and that still leaves 10 million dollars a piece
why, that's a better payout than Cash for Life!

You should really do you homework before you start on about things you obviously know nothing about. Thus your OWN "Make the stupid shut up." This matter is VERY complicated and what he did was VERY wrong. I happen to know about this case as one of the plaintiffs is a good friend of mine. Yes it is a lot of money, the lawyers happen to get quite a bit of it. Just because they highball does not mean the courts will even award anything close to what is being asked for - Lawyers advise their clients as to these sums. As for the wife, speaking generally here - She could be accountable on some level according to the law - IF any assaults took place in their home whether she knew about it or not. I can assure you there is also a VERY LEGITIMATE reason the school board is being sued - perhaps the details of that case have not been released.
ReplyDeleteThese girls were 14 years old, he was a grown man, a guidance councellor the community of Guelph trusted! There may have been more assaults and the victims over the years that never came forward.
How would you feel if this happened to YOU or one of YOUR CHILDREN? Years of shame, and trying to recover? Is there a price? Would 3 years be enough for this man?
Since when are YOU to judge what is fair?
